Electoral Boundaries Commission chair appointed
Justice Myra Bielby, a Court of Appeal judge for Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, will chair the Electoral Boundaries Commission.
Madam Justice Bielby has been a Court of Appeal judge since 2010. Before that, she spent 20 years as a judge on the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, hearing both civil and criminal matters. She started her career at Field Law in Edmonton in 1974, and by 1978, she was the first female partner in the firm’s 63-year history.
The Electoral Boundaries Commission reviews the province’s electoral boundaries. Electoral boundaries outline the size and shape of the ridings that people vote in during a provincial election.
Electoral Boundaries Commissions are formed to hold public hearings and make recommendations to the legislature in time for the next general election.
Other members of the commission will be appointed by the end of this month.
