This is the 18th year for the ceremony, which is an opportunity for Albertans to join hundreds of police and peace officers at the Alberta Legislature to pay their respects to officers who have died in the line of duty in Alberta.

“Alberta’s police and peace officers put themselves in harm’s way every day to keep our families and our communities safe. I want to extend my gratitude and unending respect to all officers, retired or active, for their service. We will always remember and honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

Kathleen Ganley, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General

The Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day ceremony also recognizes families, friends and colleagues who have suffered the loss of a loved one.

This event coincides with the national Police and Peace Officer Memorial Day ceremony held at Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
