IMP funding will be used at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre to get a new lighting system for the operating room.
Budget 2016/17 earmarked $131 million in maintenance projects for health-care facilities to ensure Albertans have a health care system they can depend on.
“It’s been an extremely busy time for construction crews at health facilities large and small. Many of these projects aren’t fancy but they are necessary and have been put off far too long. These are upgrades that need to happen so we can continue to deliver safe, reliable and quality health care to Alberta patients and their families.”
Funding for the Infrastructure Maintenance Program (IMP) is provided directly to AHS to address maintenance needs throughout the province. AHS identifies its priorities in a three-year rolling plan, which is reviewed annually by Alberta Health and Alberta Infrastructure.
Funds are allocated each year through the Infrastructure Maintenance Program. More than 600 health facility maintenance and renewal projects have been approved for funding.
“IMP funding is important for AHS to update and maintain our facilities. These projects have a direct benefit to patients, staff and visitors.”
All the approved projects are in various stages from design and procurement, to completion and testing.
Enhancements to the Capital Plan announced in Budget 2016 are estimated to add and sustain about 10,000 jobs over the next three years.
