“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Cowell as the Official Administrator of Alberta Health Services. His extensive experience and leadership will help ensure AHS continues to deliver health care services of the highest quality and better supports the dedicated frontline staff who care for all of us every day.
“Dr. Cowell has led numerous reviews to ensure quality and safety in our health system. His careful focus on the needs of patients and staff will now help us create a stronger AHS.
“As Official Administrator, Dr. Cowell is responsible under provincial legislation to oversee all aspects of AHS operations and provide direction to the CEO. This includes ensuring the changes stemming from Janet Davidson’s report on the organization and structure of AHS are implemented. He will also complete a review of executive compensation already in progress, and provide leadership in the implementation of the recommendations arising from the Health Quality Council's review of ground ambulance services.
“Over many years of service, Dr. Cowell has demonstrated to Albertans his commitment to put patients and frontline health workers first. His direct oversight of AHS and support of the new executive team will serve Albertans well.”
