Overview

The Training and Employment Services Directory lists training programs and employment services available through Alberta's government and the Government of Canada that provide unemployed or underemployed Albertans support to find a new career or connect to a job. Programs are delivered in person or online through government funded agencies in communities across the province.

The directory is organized alphabetically by community and provides additional search criteria based on program preference. If you are unable to find your community, you can use the keyword search to find a program near you.

This directory is updated monthly, but information can change without notice and may not include all available programs or services.

    • CareerConstruct program provides unemployed or under employed Albertans with industry specific construction training, hands-on experience and connections to employers to help you transition to a sustainable job. Participants will receive industry certification prior to job placement included but not limited to Common Safety Orientation (CSO), Forklift Operator Training, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and Confined Space Entry (CSE) among others.

    • AgriEdge Careers is an 11 week, plus 3 weeks of work experience program, where unemployed and underemployed skilled immigrants learn skills for the agriculture business sector in partnership with Olds College. Participants receive certificates in Financial Management from Olds College, certification for solutions focused selling, understanding leadership style, SAGE 50 certification from SAGE University and MS Office Suite certification. Participants will be matched with industry partners for work experience and job leads.

    • The Information and Technology immigrant bridging program is tailored for unemployed and underemployed Alberta foreign-trained IT professionals. Participants receive 7 weeks of technical training at SAIT including: IT business analysis, project management, data concepts, python programming, and digital solutioning. In addition CCIS will provide 9 weeks of soft skills/employability skills at thier office location. Participants will receive a 10 week internship at local IT firms and job leads and support for full time employment.

    • Training for work is a Transition to Employment Services and Workplace Training Program. This program provides unemployed and underemployed Albertans with job search, job placement/job matching, work experience and other employment supports to assist in returning to the workforce or making a career transition. Other services include: work experience or on-the-job training with an employer while receiving a wage, access to short term training funds to assist with skilling up into a new career or updating existing skills.

    • Winning Edge: Workplace Training is a partnership with employers who provide unemployed and underemployed Albertans with on-the-job training and work experience while paid a wage. This may include off-site training as identified by the employer as part of the participant's training plan.

    • Rapid Employment Services program provides unemployed and underemployed Albertans with assessment of skills and transferrability into a new career, employment support, job placement, job matching, access to short term training funds (if needed) and work experience to help pivot your existing skills and qualification into a new career. Clients may also be eligible for funds for workplace supports to cover incidental costs such as work gear, certifications and more.

    • Constructing Success - Transition to Employment Services: Provides unemployed and underemployed Albertans with short course training, work experience and industry recognized certification to work in the construction industry. Participants will receive job search support, employer leads and support to secure employment in the construction industry.

    • Self Employment program provides unemployed and underemployed Albertans with the skills and expertise to become self employed. Participants will develop a business plan and receive 10 weeks of classroom instruction and business coaching to support business plan implementation and launch their business. Working alongside like-minded entrepreneurs in a supportive learning environment, this program includes 20 weeks of training and support.

Camrose

    • Workplace Training provides unemployed and underemployed Albertans with employer-delivered work-site training program that enables on the job training for those having difficulty getting a job due to lack of skills or experience. The program will connect those looking for work directly to an employer who will provide onsite training. The participant will receive a wage while in the program. Participating employers are reimbursed for the cost of wages during training/Work experience.

    • Career Evolution North - Transition to Employment Services serves the communities of Cold Lake and Bonnyville. Unemployed or underemployed Albertans receive resume and job search assistance, employability skills, skill assessment and understanding your transferrable skills into new careers, provides access to short term training funds (if eligible), work experience and job placement support.

Drumheller

    • Transition to Employment Services and Workplace Training Hybrid program: is for unemployed and underemployed Albertans residing in central Alberta, including Drumheller, Stettler, or Three Hills.
    • Transition to Employment Services: Offers individually tailored skill assessment and transferrability of skills into new occupations/sectors, job search support and job placement, work exposure, access to short term training funds (if eligible) including required certifications such as First Aid, H2S Alive and more. Funds for employment related items necessary for the job such as clothing and tools may be eligible.
    • Workplace Training: Participants are connected with employers and get paid a wage while learning on-the-job or may be eligible for a paid work experience. This program aims to help participants learn new skills for a new job with a participating employer. This training is customized to fit your career goal, helping to secure lasting employment.

Edmonton

    • Professional Insurance Careers is a 16 week training program for unemployed and underemployed Albertans that includes workplace essential skills, occupation specific skills, skills training, work experience and job placement. Training will support participants to obtain the certifications of Professional Insurance General Licensing Qualification (LLQP), leading to employment in the professional insurance and finance sectors.

    • The JobCO program is for unemployed and underemployed Albertans that offers an employer-delivered work site training program. Participants learn new skills on-the-job with an employer while paid a wage and can also support off-site training based on the career goa. Participants can also acces AI career based tools such as resume creators, interview practice and coaching.

    • The JobPLUS program is for unemployed and underemployed Albertans and offers personalized and professional services on a flexible basis through a combination of group workshops and one to one assistance. Supports include: resume support, access to AI career based tools, skills assessment, job search assistance and employment placement.

    • CareerLaunch provides unemployed and underemployed Albertans with an employer delivered, work experience or on the job work site delivered training program that enables participants to acquire the skills needed to maintain employment. The participant will receive a wage while in the program. Participating employers will be reimbursed for wage costs during training.

    • Career Link Transition to Employment Services provides unemployed and underemployed Albertans with services to obtain and maintain employment. Services will be offered on a flexible basis through a combination of group sessions, one to one assistance, and employer events. Services include employment preparation support, individualized coaching and connections to employers.

    • Early Childhood Educator Program - Level 2 Certification: This program provides unemployed or underemployed Albertans with 26 weeks of training, encompassing essential and occupational skills for the workplace and a 10 week practicum placement, to equip you with a career in childcare. After completing the program, participants will qualify for their Level 2 certification in Early Childhood Education in Alberta.

    • SkillBuild: Training and employment support for the construction industry provides unemployed and underemployed Albertans with 15 weeks of training including 2 weeks of work experience. Program elements include: employment preparation, essential skills, technical skills training in carpentry, electrical, pipefitting, millwright and scaffolding, safety certifications, computer basics as well as job search and maintenance support. It is designed to lead to various job opportunities in the residential and/or commercial construction industry.

Online training in real time is available for participants residing anywhere north of the Edmonton area.

    • Connections: Careers in Supply Chain is a 17 week training program to prepare unemployed and underemployed Albertans for a career in supply chain industry offering computer training, job search support and industry micro-credential in logistics and transportation from the Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportion (CITT). Work experience and job placement supports are also provided throughout the program.
    • This program is available for the following communities: Lethbridge, Coaldale, Coalhurst, Picture Butte, Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek, Taber, Fort Macleod, Medicine Hat and Brooks. Please contact our office to discuss on line training access.

    • Careers in Construction program is designed for unemployed and underemployed Albertans interested in a career in residential, commercial or industrial work settings. This program provides jobs search support, career coaching, funding for short term construction skills training courses and certification as well as required employment needs such as safety gear, work experience and job placement support.

    • Construction Fundamentals Program will provide unemployed and underemployed Albertans with up to 12 weeks of job search assistance for those interested in a career in the construction industry. Participants will be assessed to determine their career path in the sector and provided with a customized training plan which could include: equipment operation, safety training, construction math, construction basics, driver training and more. Participants will be connected with employers who are interested in hiring or consideration for work experience opportunites.
    • This program also serves the communities of Fort Macleod, Cardston, Taber, Pincher Creek and Crowsnest Pass with itinerant office locations available. Call to confirm.

Lloydminster

    • Workplace Training provides unemployed and underemployed Albertans with an opportunity to learn new skills through a paid work experience or training-on-the job opportunity while receiving a wage with a participating employer.

    • Keeping Alberta Moving program provides unemployed and underemployed Albertans with Professional class 3 drivers training. Participants will receive specialized training and acquire the necessary licenses and certifications to meet safety standards and regulations and acquire the specific skills needed to meet the demands of the local job market.

    • Fasttrack to Finance Program: This program is for unemployed and underemployed Albertans interested in a career as a financial planner, bank teller, financial or investment advisor, insurance agent, insurance broker, sales representative and more. Participants must have a credit score of 650 or higher, good english and math skills, and can provide a clean criminal reference check along with other eligibility criteria. This program provides 12 weeks of training resulting in an industry recognized credential/license along with connecting participants to job leads and work exposure.

    • Business Works Central Alberta Self-Employment Program features business training boot camps, one-to-one business coaching, group coaching, mentoring and business-themed workshops. Participants are walked through the business concept stage to developing a comprehensive business plan and then on to launch and ongoing operations. This is delivered in an on line environment over 26 weeks.

    • PoweringUP - skills in construction is a 15 week program targeted to unemployed and underemployed Albertans, offering industry-leading skills training at Red Deer Polytechnic, providing exposure to: carpentry, electrical, welding, plumbing and pipefitting. Explore clean (green) energy in the construction sector and become familiar with HVAC systems and industrial workplace customer service while earning safety certification. Participants will be connected to employers and provided work experience opportunities leading to full time employment.

    • AccounTech: Provides unemployed and underemployed Albertans with training in bookkeeping fundamentals, financial organization and analysis, quickbooks and best practices for cybersecurity. Additional micro-credential options include: office 365 mastery and customer service. Work experience and job search support to lead to full time employment are also offered.

    • Supply Chain training available for unemployed or underemployed Albertans delivered on-site at Red Deer Polytechnic. Receive training in inventory management, procurement, business operations and logistics. Participants will also receive information on new technologies including AI and Robotics along with safety tickets and forklift training. This program provides work experience allowing for work integrated learning as well as job placement support.

    • Career Leap program provides unemployed and underemployed Albertans with skill assessment and transferrability of skills, employment preparation and job search support, job placement, job matching, access to short term training funds and required workplace supports such as tools, clothing (if needed) and work exposure/experience to help pivot your existing skills and qualification into a new career.
