Funding will be provided to projects that propose practical solutions for real challenges facing Albertans and their families, care providers and the assisted living workforce. Projects could include technology that improves care and quality of life, virtual and remote supports that help Albertans remain independent at home, new approaches to supporting the continuing care workforce, or community-based services that help people and caregivers access the support they need.

The Assisted Living Innovation Grant Program will also fund research to identify approaches that improve care and could be expanded to other communities or care settings. Sharing these findings will help providers learn from successful projects and put that knowledge into practice.

“Albertans deserve care that meets their needs and helps them live as independently as possible. This funding will give organizations the opportunity to put new ideas into practice, identify what works and help shape the future of assisted living in Alberta.”

Nathan Neudorf, Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services

As Alberta’s population grows and ages, Albertans need access to care and supports that meet their changing needs. The Assisted Living Innovation Grant Program will invest in projects that will develop, test and evaluate new ways to deliver care, strengthen services and support independent living for seniors and Albertans with disabilities across the province.

“Every day, care providers see where a new or innovative approach could make life better for the people they support. This funding will help make practical improvements to care, giving providers the opportunity to test promising ideas and share what works across Alberta.”

Brian Pollard, CEO, Assisted Living Alberta

Applications for the Assisted Living Innovation Grant are open until Nov. 6, with up to $50 million available through this initial intake. Eligible applicants include not-for-profit organizations and societies, continuing care operators, housing providers, service providers, First Nations and Metis Settlements. Projects will be assessed on how well they support the program’s goals, the strength of their plans, the organization’s readiness to deliver them and how effectively they would use public funding.
