“The federal government has announced a substantial investment in Alberta-based military infrastructure. About $8 billion is being invested across multiple projects, demonstrating the vital role Alberta plays in our nation’s security through the Canadian Armed Forces.

“The men and women who serve on these bases are not only proud Canadians, but also proud Albertans. Our government thanks them for their services, the bravery they show and the sacrifices they make every single day.

“Within this funding, an approximate $550-million investment will establish Alberta as the Western Main Operating Base for the Royal Canadian Air Force’s CC-330 Husky fleet, putting our province in focus as a defence hub for Canada.

“Investments such as this are making important modernizations that will both improve Canada’s defence capabilities while also bringing substantial economic benefit. Alberta stands ready to harness its strengths and help deliver the defence infrastructure that will support our security and prosperity for years to come.

“We are also investing in the schools, health care facilities, highways and skilled workforce needed to support the communities surrounding military bases in Alberta, ensuring they remain strong, connected and ready for future growth.”

Danielle Smith, Premier

“This funding builds on Alberta’s existing national defence assets, including the Canadian Forces Bases in Cold Lake, Edmonton, Suffield and Wainwright. It ensures the Canadian Armed Forces have the facilities they need to train, support domestic operations and respond to evolving security challenges, while reinforcing Alberta's long-standing role in Canada's defence and sovereignty.

“Modernizing and expanding defence infrastructure will create opportunities for companies that build, maintain and support major projects, while helping attract new investment to Alberta’s growing defence sector.

“Every one of these dollars is going to strengthen Canada to defend its sovereignty, while also generating up to 38,000 Alberta jobs.

“As a leader in aerospace, advanced manufacturing, technology, logistics and defence-related research, Alberta has the workforce, expertise and industrial capacity needed to get the job done.

“Alberta is proud to support the growth of a strong domestic defence industrial base. When Canada needs the space, expertise and capacity to support its national defence objectives, Alberta is ready to deliver.”
