On July 30, Brock Canada Field Services Ltd. pleaded guilty in the Fort Saskatchewan Court of Justice to one count under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act for failing to ensure the health and safety of a worker.
The charges stemmed from an incident involving Brock Canada Field Services Ltd. and Nutrien (Canada) Holdings ULC. at a work site in Redwater on Aug. 10, 2023. A worker entered a scaffold to remove hoarding when they slipped and fell into an open utility corridor in the ground containing hot water, suffering serious injuries.
The court fined Brock Canada Field Services Ltd. $132,000, including the victim fine surcharge.
All remaining charges against Brock Canada Field Services Ltd. and Nutrien (Canada) Holdings ULC. were withdrawn.
The company and the Crown have up to 30 days to appeal the conviction or penalty.
