Alberta’s new regulated iGaming market is launching with 22 registered sites, giving Albertans a more responsible, legal alternative to unregulated gambling while holding operators to the highest standards of player protection and social responsibility.

Unregulated online gambling has long been available across Alberta, with many providers operating with limited or no player protection standards or social responsibility measures. Before the launch of Alberta’s regulated market, it was estimated that about 70 per cent of online gambling took place through unregulated operators.

“Alberta is taking an important step forward with the launch of a regulated iGaming market. Our focus has been clear from the start: to protect Albertans, especially young people, and ensure that those who choose online gaming can do so in a responsible environment.”

Dale Nally, Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction

Under Alberta's regulated market, operators are required to put player protection and social responsibility at the forefront of their operations. Albertans will have access to responsible gaming tools, including financial and time limits, gaming activity statements, and a provincewide self-exclusion program across all regulated online platforms, casinos and racing entertainment centres. Operators must also intervene when signs of high-risk gambling behaviour emerge and are prohibited from targeting minors or vulnerable individuals through advertising and marketing.

“Alberta has built a thoughtful and collaborative iGaming framework that reflects the highest standards of player protection and responsible gaming. Alberta’s market sets clear expectations for operators and creates a responsible, competitive environment for the industry. The Alberta iGaming Corporation is well prepared to conduct and manage the regulated market on behalf of the province.”

Dan Keene, CEO, Alberta iGaming Corporation

Operators that fail to meet Alberta’s player protection and social responsibility measures or take advantage of Albertans may lose the ability to operate in the province. Alberta’s regulated market is built on accountability and will hold operators to the highest standards of conduct.
