MLA Pitt will champion Alberta’s energy opportunity in meetings with the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Task Force on Energy Supply when she convenes with state legislators to discuss how Alberta can help solve critical energy issues impacting the United States. Insights and expertise shared in these meetings will help inform future policies to build a reliable, affordable and resilient energy system in North America.
“Alberta has an estimated 137-year supply of world-class energy resources, providing a stable, responsibly produced source of energy that supports North American energy dominance and long-term economic growth. I look forward to reinforcing that message with state legislators and officials in the U.S., and to building even stronger ties that will keep Alberta central to North American energy security for years to come.”
MLA Pitt will leverage these opportunities to highlight the strong energy ties Alberta enjoys with many of the NCSL member states, including with states in U.S. West, Midwest and the South, and explore ways to make them even more resilient. This will also provide another platform to advocate for Alberta’s energy to U.S. state legislators as Alberta and the U.S. energy systems are highly integrated.
While in meetings and on policy tours in New Orleans, MLA Pitt will highlight Louisiana’s energy sector, which has long been a loyal customer for Alberta’s oil, refined petroleum and chemical exports. Louisiana serves as a key distribution hub for Alberta products for markets worldwide through the Port of New Orleans. Mutually beneficial ties also extend to private sector collaboration and market opportunities, with Alberta companies working closely with Louisiana’s petrochemical industry, and Louisiana-based firms operating in Alberta such as ExxonMobil.
The NCSL was established in 1975 by state legislators and brings together lawmakers and government leaders from all 50 U.S. states, commonwealths, territories and the District of Columbia. The NCSL’s Task Force on Energy Supply was created in 2009 and consists of legislators and legislative staff with experience and an interest in developing and analyzing state energy policy. Alberta is an affiliate member of the organization and a member of its International Advisory Council.
Mission expenses will be posted on the travel and expense disclosure page.
