“National Indigenous History Month is a time to recognize the histories, cultures, languages and perspectives of First Nations, Métis and Inuit, and to reflect on the deep and lasting ways Indigenous Peoples have shaped this province.

“It is a time to look to the past with honesty and to consider our shared future. Treaties remain an enduring part of Alberta’s foundation, continuing to shape relationships and responsibilities today. Métis communities were also central to the province’s early economy, with generations of traders, entrepreneurs and leaders helping shape Alberta’s growth and development.

“Today, that leadership continues in communities, in business, in education and in efforts to revitalize languages, celebrate cultures and carry forward knowledge across generations. First Nations, Métis and Inuit are advancing priorities grounded in their histories, perspectives and aspirations for the future.

“National Indigenous History Month is an opportunity for people in Alberta to listen, learn and take part in different ways. Many choose to attend local events, support Indigenous-led initiatives and businesses and take time to learn from Indigenous voices, stories and experiences.

“The future of this province will continue to be shaped by the leadership, knowledge and vision of Indigenous Peoples, and Alberta’s government remains committed to working together to support reconciliation through strong, respectful relationships and meaningful action.”
