As Alberta’s population grows, so does the demand for affordable housing across the province. That’s why, through Alberta’s Affordable Housing Partnership Program, $323 million in joint federal and provincial funding has been committed to build more than 3,600 affordable homes in communities across the province.
“You can’t have strong communities without places for people to live. That’s why we’re building affordable housing in every corner of this province, and we’re doing it by partnering with the people on the ground who know their communities best and how to deliver real results.”
“Alberta’s growth reflects opportunity. As more people choose our province to work and raise families, we must build housing faster. By partnering with Alberta to deliver these investments, Canada’s new government is accelerating home construction to meet the needs of our fast-growing communities.”
This funding will build 41 affordable housing projects, with at least 10 per cent accessible housing units. These projects will also build more than 70 new shelter spaces for Albertans in need, including dedicated spaces for vulnerable women. Together, these projects will ensure more Albertans, including seniors, families, individuals recovering from addiction and persons with disabilities, have access to safe, stable, affordable housing in the province, where they can build a better future for themselves and their families.
Successful projects were selected through a competitive evaluation process that considered community need, project readiness and financial viability, with a commitment to affordability that lasts a minimum of 20 years.
“I want to express our sincere gratitude for this important investment in the WIN Together: The Miller Project. When government, community partners and organizations like ours come together, we create a real and lasting impact. This support will give women and children fleeing violence a safe place to stabilize, heal and rebuild. It is an investment not just in a building, but in the futures of the families we serve.”
“Funding through the Affordable Housing Partnership Program helps support housing that is responsive to community needs and designated to promote accessibility, safety, independence and quality of life. Partnerships like these are essential to ensuring availability of appropriate housing that contributes to the dignity, independence and well-being of all Albertans.”
