“National Police Week is an opportunity to recognize the courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment of the women and men who serve in law enforcement across Canada. Every day, police officers protect our communities, support victims and help keep Albertans safe, often without recognition but with an impact felt in every corner of our province.
“Policing is a profession unlike any other. Each day, thousands of Albertans put on the uniform and step into unpredictable and often dangerous situations, driven by professionalism, integrity and a deep commitment to the people they serve.
“This year’s theme, Committed to Service Together, reflects a fundamental truth: effective policing is built on trust. That trust is earned through presence, consistency and listening. When Albertans speak up, report concerns or seek help, it reflects confidence that police will respond with care and professionalism. That trust strengthens public safety and helps prevent crime before it escalates.
“Alberta’s government is committed to supporting that work. Through Budget 2026, we are investing more than $36 million to launch the Alberta Sheriff Police Service, providing the training and tools needed to complement existing law enforcement agencies and respond to increasingly complex crime.
“National Police Week is also an opportunity to recognize the many professionals working behind the scenes to prevent and investigate crime. Their critical work is supported by continued investments in modern policing tools and technology. Budget 2026 also includes nearly $9 million investment to establish a provincial DNA forensic laboratory, helping police solve crimes faster and bringing certainty and closure to victims and their families.
“Public safety depends on the dedication of those serving on the front lines and behind the scenes every day. This week, we thank all law enforcement officers across Alberta for your service, professionalism and commitment to safe, strong communities. I encourage all Albertans to take a moment this week to share their appreciation for the officers and support staff in their local communities, whether in person or through social media using #NationalPoliceWeek.”
