Effective immediately, responsibility for multiculturalism is moving from the Ministry of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration (JETI) to the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Status of Women (ACSW).

“This change puts multiculturalism under one ministry to cut duplication, make programs easier to navigate and ensure efforts deliver real impact for communities and all Albertans. I thank Associate Minister Yaseen for his ongoing commitment to these important initiatives.”

Premier Danielle Smith

“I look forward to continuing my work within the Ministry of ACSW, building on our momentum to advance inclusion, strengthen partnerships and create meaningful opportunities for communities across Alberta. It’s an honour to continue my work as the Associate Minister of Multiculturalism as we work towards our shared commitment to building a province where everyone feels they belong.”

Muhammad Yaseen, Associate Minister of Multiculturalism

The Honourable Muhammad Yaseen was first sworn in as Associate Minister of Multiculturalism on May 16, 2025. He brings extensive experience as a community leader and advocate, with a strong background in public service, education and engagement with ethnocultural communities across Alberta. He has played a key role in advancing initiatives that address racism and strengthen community connections.

As part of this change, the Ministry of ACSW will assume responsibility for several multiculturalism and anti-racism initiatives, including:

  • Alberta Anti-Racism Advisory Council
  • Alberta Black Advisory Council
  • Premier’s Council on Multiculturalism
  • Ethnocultural grant program and Anti-Racism Grant Program
  • Multicultural events currently hosted by the Associate Minister
  • Alberta’s Anti-Racism Action Plan

Operational support for these initiatives and associated resources will be formally relocated to ACSW at a future date.
