“October is Disability Employment Awareness Month: a time to celebrate the many talents of Albertans with disabilities and their contributions to our economy.
“Albertans with disabilities are essential to Alberta’s workforce and deserve every opportunity to thrive in their chosen career. Alberta is stronger when all Albertans are able to pursue meaningful employment and help drive our province’s success.
"That’s why our government is making record investments to support Albertans with disabilities. Through Budget 2025, our government is committing $3.6 billion to support people with disabilities – an increase of more than $150 million from last year.
“This September, we took the next step by launching WorkFirst Alberta, the largest investment in employment services in our province’s history. With $185 million dedicated to connecting Albertans with jobs and employers with the workers they need, Alberta’s government is almost doubling our commitment to breaking down barriers to employment. WorkFirst Alberta is built from the ground up, shaped by communities and guided by best practices to transform employment supports in our province and break down barriers that stand in the way of opportunity.
“And in July 2026, we will launch the Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP). ADAP will empower Albertans with disabilities who are able to work to pursue fulfilling job opportunities while continuing to receive the supports they need. ADAP is being designed based on the input of Albertans with disabilities, their loved ones, and the organizations that support them – my sincere thanks to everyone who participated in the engagement and are helping shape the future of this essential program.
"This October, I encourage all Albertans to join me in celebrating workplace inclusion and recognizing the incredible contributions Albertans with disabilities make every day."
