“Hunting has always been important to Alberta’s heritage. It connects us to the land, provides food for families, supports conservation efforts and strengthens rural economies. As Minister of Forestry and Parks, and a lifelong hunter, I’m proud to celebrate this year’s Provincial Hunting Day.

“While I’ve learned a great deal about the outdoors through my own experiences, much of what I know was passed down from family and friends. When it comes to encouraging young hunters and increasing accessibility in outdoor activities, mentorship is so important. That’s why I encourage all Albertans to share their knowledge and passion with the youth in their lives. Provincial Hunting Day is a special opportunity to introduce Alberta’s youth to our province’s rich hunting traditions while encouraging the next generation of Albertans to be responsible stewards of our outdoor spaces.

“For this annual celebration, hunters aged ten to 17 who have completed the Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education course can hunt upland game birds without a provincial Game Bird Licence as long as they are under the supervision of a parent, guardian or authorized adult. It’s a great opportunity to practice safe hunting, learn about wildlife management and build lasting memories with role models and loved ones.

“We must continue to preserve these traditions enjoyed by so many Albertans by standing up to federal overreach and defending hunters. The federal government plans to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on a gun confiscation scheme that targets law-abiding hunters and firearms owners. Our government will not participate in Ottawa’s ineffective gun grab program, and we will continue to stand with hunters, sport-shooters and responsible firearms owners.

“Outdoor enthusiasts looking to participate in Provincial Hunting Day are encouraged to review updated regulations for hunting season. Alberta’s government recently made changes to both the Wildlife Act and Wildlife Regulation, reflecting our commitment to modern, science-based wildlife management.

“Let’s celebrate Provincial Hunting Day by passing on our traditions, protecting hunters and firearm owners, and ensuring Alberta’s outdoor spaces remain wild for generations to come.”
