Alberta’s government has been a steadfast partner to the people of Ukraine, helping evacuees adjust to living in the province. Over the past two years, about $75.3 million in funding has been budgeted for programs and supports that have helped Ukrainian newcomers.

"In times of crisis, Alberta's Government stands as a beacon of compassion and support, extending a warm welcome to Ukrainian evacuees. Through collaborative efforts with the business community, Ukrainian-Canadian organizations and settlement agencies, we are committed to providing essential assistance, ensuring their safety, dignity and smooth integration into our vibrant Alberta community."

Muhammad Yaseen, Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism

Alberta remains prepared to help those who come from Ukraine as well as those who are already in Alberta communities. Alberta’s government has been providing emergency hotel accommodation and has recently added surge capacity through April so that eligible Ukrainians arriving in the province have a place to stay for up to 14 days upon arrival.

In addition, the following services and supports will remain available on an ongoing basis:

  • Welcome desk for newcomers at the Edmonton and Calgary airports;
  • Telephone help line with service in Ukrainian;
  • Ukrainian Evacuees Support Program to help with language and employment supports and emerging needs;
  • Employment services through the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers and the Centre for Newcomers Society of Calgary;
  • Apprenticeship training; and
  • Driver’s licence exchange.

In addition to these supports, Alberta’s government is working to extend Ukrainian evacuees’ access to key services such as health care and emergency financial supports beyond April 30, as needed.

“Arriving in a new country and province after experiencing conflict can be overwhelming. Alberta is a great friend of Ukraine and the supports we have provided Ukrainian evacuees has made settling into our province and integrating into our communities easier.”

Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk, parliamentary secretary for settlement services and Ukrainian evacuees
