Calgary has a thriving arts and culture scene that significantly contributes to our province’s economy and builds vibrant communities. Through Budget 2024, Alberta’s government is investing in downtown Calgary’s cultural infrastructure and, if passed, would provide Arts Commons with $103 million over seven years to support the Arts Commons and Olympic Plaza transformation project.
With this investment, Alberta’s government is supporting two premier arts, entertainment and culture hubs in the heart of Calgary’s downtown, making the arts more accessible for all Albertans. In addition, the project is projected to create almost 3,500 full-time construction jobs and add $424 million in GDP to the provincial economy.

Arts Commons is a hub where entertainment, arts and culture come to life for thousands of Calgary and area residents. As one of Western Canada’s largest arts centres, it supports six resident arts companies as well as hundreds of artists. Once complete, the project will result in one of the largest contiguous indoor and outdoor arts-focused spaces in Canada.
The Arts Commons and Olympic Plaza transformation project supports Calgary’s revitalization strategy for the downtown core and plays a key role in ensuring Calgary continues to be one of the world’s most liveable cities for generations to come.

Supporting cultural infrastructure like Arts Commons ensures the province has the facilities needed to continue to celebrate and promote Alberta’s unique arts sector. Le centre Arts Commons est un carrefour où le divertissement, les arts et la culture prennent vie pour des milliers d’habitants de Calgary et de la région.
