“This week is a time for raising awareness of the serious mental health challenges that are affecting Albertans who struggle with eating disorders.

“The truth is anyone can suffer from an eating disorder. It is important we talk about eating disorders and ensure those we love know that help is available. If left undiagnosed and untreated, eating disorders can cause serious harm to a person’s physical and mental health.

“With the right care and support, recovery from an eating disorder is possible. That’s why Alberta’s government is increasing the number of publicly funded treatment beds to help more Albertans access the help they desperately need. Working with our partners at Silver Linings Foundation, we’re establishing a new community-based recovery program in Calgary for young people with complex eating disorders. This live-in program provides specialized treatment around the clock in a home-like setting and is helping more young Albertans pursue recovery.

“If you or someone you love is struggling with an eating disorder, help is available. Call or text 211 Alberta to connect with digital supports and local services in your community or visit the Eating Disorder Support Network of Alberta online for more information on support and treatment options.”
