“Alberta-based shows received a total of 30 Emmy award nominations – Prey with six nominations and one win, and The Last of Us with an amazing 24 nominations and eight wins.

“Congratulations to all the nominees and winners of the 75th Emmy Awards. I am especially proud of the six Alberta crew members of The Last of Us on their Emmy nominations: Paul Healy for Outstanding Production Design, Rebecca Toon and Michelle Carr for Outstanding Contemporary Costumes, Chris Glimsdale and Penny Thompson for Outstanding Contemporary Hairstyling and Michael Playfair, who won for Outstanding Sound Mixing.

“Alberta talent is getting recognized across the awards season. I’d like to also congratulate Fargo and The Last of Us, which were each nominated for three Golden Globes. We have so much talent within Alberta, and it is fantastic to see these professionals receive the credit they deserve.

“The talent, opportunity and competitive advantage we have in our province is also why I made a mission trip to Los Angeles last week to attend meetings with production studios and to co-host an event to promote Alberta to Hollywood producers and studio executives. It gave me a chance to tell producers from around the world about our competitive financial incentives, breathtaking locations, world-class studios and exceptional crews and talent. We have quickly become a place for the creation of award-winning productions.

“Alberta’s film and television industry has impressive momentum, and it is showing amazing economic impacts for our province. We’ve been told by executives at HBO that by improving our financial incentives, we’re now in the ‘major leagues.’ When blockbuster Hollywood productions decide to film in Alberta, hundreds of jobs are created, millions of dollars of investment is injected into Alberta’s economy, and our economy becomes more diversified.

“Alberta is ready to roll out the red carpet for more outstanding productions and to be the go-to destination for the film and screen industry. This year promises to be one of our busiest years yet, and I look forward to seeing Alberta on screen for years to come!”
