The funding from Alberta’s government will help British Columbia sweets company English Bay construct a 100,000-square-foot factory in the town, creating 70 new permanent jobs and 90 construction jobs for Albertans.

“The Investment and Growth Fund has been a great success for Alberta. For every $1 million that the fund grants, over $58 million is expected to be spent in the province. These investments create opportunities, build prosperity and provide jobs that support families, pay mortgages and buy groceries.”

Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Trade, Immigration and Multiculturalism

Alberta’s economy has momentum, and the province is focused on creating jobs and growing and diversifying the economy. The government’s commitment to low taxes and reducing red tape has created one of the friendliest environments for investment and job creators in North America.

English Bay’s well-known chocolate bars, candy, cookies, baked goods and nutrition bars are sold across North America. Growing into Stony Plain will help the company benefit from the region’s Port Alberta hub, providing the opportunity to ship products to hundreds of destinations worldwide.

“In my many years of growing diverse companies, I find people to be my greatest resource. Our team is exceptional, helping each other across businesses. We have established relationships with the Town of Stony Plain through the development of our other entities and seek to continue growth in Stony Plain with the move of English Bay to this wonderful community.”

Jack Seguin, owner and CEO, English Bay

“I’m honoured and elated to welcome English Bay Blending and Fine Chocolates to Stony Plain. English Bay’s investment will create valuable jobs, diversify and boost the local economy, and contribute to growing the community. I thank the province of Alberta, as the Investment and Growth Fund was impactful in solidifying the investment in Stony Plain. I share our gratitude with our partners at Edmonton Global, as this is an enormous win for the community and the Edmonton Metropolitan Region. Stony Plain is a growing and vibrant community and Mr. Seguin's decision to relocate English Bay's operations here and invest in our community will play an essential role in that growth.”

William Choy, mayor, Town of Stony Plain

“We are extremely excited to welcome English Bay into the Edmonton Metropolitan Region. Value-added agriculture holds so much potential for our region. We’re one of the few places in the world that produces more food than we consume, and our northern location means we’re strategically connected to global markets. We look forward to seeing English Bay benefit from our strong ecosystem and continue their growth here.”

Malcolm Bruce, CEO, Edmonton Global

Alberta’s government created the Investment and Growth Fund in 2021, which has helped bring eight companies to Alberta. These companies are expected to create more than 700 permanent full-time jobs and 2,000 part-time and temporary jobs, resulting in $1 billion in capital spending in Alberta.

“English Bay coming to Stony Plain is extremely exciting news, and I’d like to welcome them to our lovely province. Our government is committed to rural communities like Stony Plain. And through the Investment and Growth Fund’s Rural Stream, Alberta’s government is helping to expand and diversify our economies and create opportunities.”

Searle Turton, MLA for Spruce Grove-Stony Plain

Budget 2023 secures Alberta’s future by transforming the health-care system to meet people’s needs, supporting Albertans with the high cost of living, keeping our communities safe and driving the economy with more jobs, quality education and continued diversification.
