“The earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria have been devastating for the people of those countries and for their family and friends in Alberta communities. Our thoughts are with all victims, survivors and their families and loved ones. This is why Alberta’s government is proud to match donations to the Canadian Red Cross to help support relief efforts.”
More than 50,000 people have died in Türkiye and Syria following earthquakes on Feb. 6 and Feb. 20, with the death toll expected to rise. Alberta’s government extends condolences to all who have been affected.
“Türkiye and Syria have been hit by multiple earthquakes that have caused thousands of people to lose their lives. Now, as people mourn the loss of their family and friends, they find themselves facing a humanitarian crisis. Alberta’s government wants to send help and stand in solidarity with the people of Türkiye and Syria. I encourage all Albertans to donate to Red Cross efforts helping Türkiye and Syria. I also want to send my sincerest condolences to all those who have lost a loved one during these tragic earthquakes.”
Alberta’s government will match every donation Albertans and Alberta organizations make to the Canadian Red Cross, up to $1 million. The funds will provide much-needed humanitarian aid to those affected.
“The great generosity of Albertans is much appreciated and will offer valuable support to countless people struggling to rebuild their lives in the wake of devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria. Donations will continue to help people receive vital assistance, including shelter, food, water, medical supplies, emotional support, first aid and ongoing recovery efforts being provided by local Red Cross Red Crescent teams.”
The Ministry of Trade, Immigration and Multiculturalism will work with the Alberta Emergency Management Agency to match funding.
