“Every year on Oct. 1, we celebrate seniors in Alberta by recognizing the Day of Older Persons.

“It is an important day to recognize the hard work and contributions seniors have made to make Alberta the great province that it is today.

“That is notably important, as this year’s theme is The Resilience and Contributions of Older Women.

“This serves as a reminder of the significant role older women play in their communities while overcoming discrimination based on their age and gender.

“Alberta’s older women have demonstrated their resilience time and time again during our history.

“Their work ethic helped build Alberta while providing supports for their family and communities.

“Recognizing the important contributions of older women and promoting the inclusion of their voices, perspectives and needs is critical to creating inclusive communities that our seniors can prosper.

“I encourage everyone to take time to reach out to their mothers, grandmothers, aunts, neighbours, friends and other older women in Alberta to celebrate this fantastic day.

“I say it all the time – seniors are the strength of Alberta!”
