“Injuries can be life-changing, and in some cases deadly.

“Every year in Alberta, there are more than 2,000 preventable injury-related deaths. More than 40,000 Albertans will be hospitalized for serious injuries this year, and about 8,000 of them will go on to live with a permanent, partial or total disability.

“National Injury Prevention Day raises our awareness that many injuries are predictable and preventable, such as playground injuries, concussions, falls and poisoning.

“As we spend more time outdoors during the summer and enjoy more activities, please learn more about injury prevention and stay alert to your surroundings and other people so we can prevent injuries to ourselves and others at home, work and in our communities.

“Caring for our health starts before health care is needed, as preventative health. Stay safe and live well.”
