“October is recognized as Dyslexia Awareness Month across Canada and throughout the world.

“About 20 per cent of Albertans live with dyslexia and face challenges that make it difficult to read, write or spell.

“Alberta’s government believes giving children an education that prepares them for success is of the utmost importance, and we are committed to improving classroom education for all students, including those with dyslexia. This year, Alberta’s government is providing $45 million to school authorities across the province to address COVID-19 learning disruption, which includes literacy and numeracy screening assessments in their schools. This will also help identify students with dyslexia sooner so that supports can be put in place to help them overcome these challenges.

“I am proud to declare October 2021 as Dyslexia Awareness Month in Alberta. Together we can raise awareness and ensure that all children in Alberta have access to the supports and services they need to be successful.”
