“Today, Sikh Albertans will celebrate Guru Nanak Gurpurab, the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism.
“Born in 1469, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the first Sikh Guru. His teachings focused on spiritual growth through meditation and a life inspired by the divine in every person. His journeys took him far and wide, and broke down gender and caste barriers, reinforcing the belief that everyone is equal under God.
“The Sikh community has made great contributions to Alberta for more than 100 years, with a tradition of service that supports all Albertans, regardless of background or faith.
“This year, please keep your families, friends and loved ones safe by following all public health measures at your celebrations. Celebrating from a distance helps us stay connected and will help us make it through this pandemic together.”
