“Aug. 12 is International Youth Day. This is a day to celebrate the voices, actions and energy of young people, as they take their rightful place in our social and economic life. Living through a global pandemic is an extraordinary time for everyone, including young people who have had to navigate online learning, miss important milestones like graduation celebrations, and deal with the challenges of physically distancing from friends, family and their communities. Youth play important roles in our province, and in our communities. I see this with my Minister’s Youth Council, which provides input on how we can build an education system that adapts to student needs and prepares students for success. On this International Youth Day, please take a moment to recognize and celebrate the many contributions young people make each and every day.”

Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Education

“As the Minister of Children’s Services, I am proud of the Government of Alberta’s commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable youth, especially during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. Young people are at a stage in life of immense change, which presents both opportunities and obstacles. In providing supports to children, youth and families, we help equip youth to achieve their potential. Young people who draw on a strong foundation can reach higher and become more engaged in the wider community, to the benefit of all Albertans. They play a key role in our province, both in the present and building the future. Learning, growing and meeting challenges with energy and determination – this province’s youth embody the spirit of Alberta itself. This International Youth Day, please reach out to the young people in your life and let them know their voices matter.”
