"Tonight, Hindus in Alberta join others around the world to begin celebrating Navaratri, or Durga Puja. Over nine nights, festivities such as Garba will worship the goddess Durga, and celebrate her defeat of the demon Mahishasura.
"Although there are various interpretations of this festival, they all share the common theme of good triumphing over evil.
"As Hindu communities across Alberta honour these important traditions, I would also like to thank them for sharing their traditions with us as we strive for a better understanding of our province’s diverse cultural groups.
"Our province was built by people of many cultures and faiths, and we continue to welcome newcomers who want to contribute to Alberta’s future."
