From June 6-12, Seniors’ Week will be celebrated at over 100 special events across the province. All Albertans are encouraged to attend an event, catch up with the seniors in your own life, or take a moment to thank an Albertan senior who has made a difference to your community.

“I’m proud to help mark 30 years of celebrating Alberta’s seniors and their many contributions to our communities. Seniors’ Week is a cherished annual tradition in our province today. I encourage everyone to honour seniors this week.”

Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Seniors and Housing

The provincial launch event, co-hosted by the North Edmonton Seniors Association, officially kicks off Seniors’ Week on June 6 at the Northgate Lions Recreation Centre at 9 a.m.

During Seniors’ Week, Albertans age 65 and older will receive free admission to the province’s 19 historic sites and museums.

Seniors’ Week was inspired by Alice Modin, a Strathcona County resident who urged the county to establish a seniors’ day. What was originally a one day in one local celebration is now a provincewide week of festivities.
