This release was issued under a previous government.

The rehabilitation work will involve replacement of the expansion joints on Ivor Strong Bridge over the Bow River. Ivor Strong Bridge is located south east of Anderson Road and Bow Bottom Trail where those roads connect with Deerfoot Trail.

The project has been designed to ensure the shortest duration of traffic disruption. However, some disruption will be unavoidable, and during that time crews will work day and night, seven days a week.

Starting at 9:00 pm on May 13 and until the bridge work is completed by July 4, lane restriction and speed reduction will be in effect in both directions.

  • Major delays are expected on Deerfoot Trail
  • Speed will be reduced to 50 km/h
  • Two lanes will remain open in each direction
  • Narrow lanes, one three metres wide and the other 3.25 metres wide
  • Weight restrictions wil not be affected
  • Wide loads must co-ordinate with central permitting
  • Large commercial truck access will be restricted on ramps during work. Affected trucks must find alternate routes. Ramps will include:
    • Anderson Rd. SE travelling eastbound, with access to  Deerfoot Trail South
    • Bow Bottom Trail SE travelling northbound, with access to Deerfoot Trail North
    • Southland Dr. SE accessing Deerfoot Trail South
    • 24th Street SE travelling southbound, with access to accessing Deerfoot Trail North
    • Douglasdale Blvd. SE travelling northbound, with access to Deerfoot Trail North

Additional information
