Sixteen award winners recognized with a prestigious award include:

Breanna Warren, Cochrane, age seven

During first week of school, Breanna approached a school administrator with a $250 contribution towards fundraising for her school’s playground. She raised the money making and selling bracelets and recycling bottles during summer vacation.

Aly Johnson, Edmonton, age 15

Having overcome depression and bullying, Aly serves on the CASA Youth Advisory Committee where she provides feedback and recommendations on youth mental health programming. She also advocates for program funding through presentations to donors. Aly made such an impact at a school that she was asked to repeat her presentation the following year.

Other achievements included earning a spot on the Canadian women’s national sledge hockey team despite health issues and raising $22,000 for a classmate with a traumatic brain injury.

“The remarkable accomplishments of these young Albertans inspire us all and make a difference in our communities. Our government is proud of these young people for being strong role models and we celebrate them for demonstrating the best of Alberta.”
