“The number of Alberta-based productions and individuals nominated for Canadian Screen Awards speaks to the phenomenal work that we continue to produce in this province.  

“Through the Alberta Media Fund, the Government of Alberta is proud to support our province’s cultural industries, which are important contributors to a more diverse economy. For example, our screen-based production industry employs about 3,000 Albertans and has brought millions of dollars into communities across the province.

“I look forward to the continued success of Alberta’s film, television and digital media industries, and I am delighted to see Alberta’s creative talent, craftspeople and production companies recognized by their peers.”

Alberta’s film and television industry has generated more than $400 million in direct spending in Alberta over the last five years through projects supported by the Alberta Media Fund.

Twelve Alberta productions and talent were nominated for Canadian Screen Awards across 25 categories and won the following:

  • Best Biography or Arts Documentary Program or Series - Balletlujah (Corkscrew Media - Scott Henuset, Heather Edwards, Brent Kawchuk)
  • Best Science or Nature Documentary Program or Series - The Great Human Odyssey (Niobe Thompson, Mathew Janzen and aAron munson)
  • Best Original Music for a Non-Fiction Program or Series - The Great Human Odyssey Rise of a Species (Darren Fung)
  • *Best News Special - Decision Alberta 2015 - Global (Kenton Boston, Chris Bassett, Michael Fulmes, Michael Hennigar, Deb Zinck, Michel Gosselin, Lisa Geddes)*
  • *Best Reportage, Local – Global Calgary Taxi Assault (Nancy Hixt, Dani Lantela and Lee Dillman)*
