This release was issued under a previous government.
The new sections will provide motorists with an additional 53 kilometres of four-lane highway. This brings Highway 63 to a total of 221 kilometres of twinned road between Grassland and Fort McMurray.
Thursday, October 15
Starting at 10 a.m., weather permitting
Between kilometre 188 and kilometre 222
- A complete shutdown of the highway in both directions will take place for approximately one hour.
- Traffic will be stopped at all intersection locations within the project.
Starting at 10 a.m., weather permitting
Between kilometre 145 and kilometre 154
- Traffic in both directions will stop for approximately 30 minutes to accommodate the transition to the new alignment.
Starting at 2 p.m., weather permitting
North of Highway 55 junction to kilometre 11
- Traffic in both directions will stop for approximately 15 minutes to accommodate the transition to the new lanes.

- Drivers are reminded to obey all flag persons, signs and signals.
- Fines for speeding are doubled in construction zones.
