Help from Red Cross
For people who have returned back to the Wood Buffalo region, a Red Cross office has been set up in Fort McMurray and is located at 10019B Franklin Avenue. Residents of the Wood Buffalo region who have unmet needs due to the fires, please book an appointment before visiting the Red Cross office.

Alberta Works Emergency Needs Allowance
Emergency benefits may be available for eligible Albertans to meet immediate daily needs.

Emergency Child Care Subsidy
Eligible families can apply for an Emergency Child Care Subsidy to assist with the cost of licensed or approved child care for children under 12 and not yet in Grade 7. You, your partner, or the child receiving care must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a temporary foreign worker; and you must be registered with the Red Cross and unable to reside in your home due to the wildfire.

Seniors Financial Assistance
Alberta student loan payments for Wood Buffalo students affected by the wildfire, including recent graduates, will be deferred until March 1, 2017, interest free.

The repayment and interest-free period extension is for Alberta student loans only. Students with Canada student loans are advised to contact the National Student Loans Service Centre to discuss repayment options.
