Overview

The Electoral Divisions Amendment Act (formerly Bill 87) renames the Calgary-McCall constituency to Calgary-Bhullar-McCall in honour of the late MLA Manmeet Bhullar.

Alberta has a long-standing tradition of renaming constituencies after elected officials who made outstanding contributions to our province.

Manmeet Bhullar made history at the youngest MLA ever when he was first elected in March 2008. He served until November 2015, when he died tragically following a road incident. During his time in office he held several cabinet portfolios where he fought to better protect homeowners, advocated for vulnerable Albertans, defended visible minorities, and championed capital projects across the province.

Manmeet Bhullar’s former constituency was abolished in 2017 when Alberta’s electoral boundaries were updated. This constituency holds significance to the former minister’s family and is also the location of the Manmeet Singh Bhullar School named in his honour.
