“Each year, we recognize the first Tuesday of April as National Caregivers Day. National Caregivers Day is an important opportunity for us to recognize the hundreds of thousands of Albertans who have taken on the role of carer.

“The contributions of caregivers to their families and communities are essential. They are the everyday heroes who give rides to medical appointments, offer companionship, deliver groceries, provide support in the home and so much more.

“Our government recognizes and appreciates the critical role caregivers fill. We are committed to developing supports for unpaid caregivers who help seniors, and those with an illness or disability, age in their chosen homes and communities.

“With nearly one million caregivers in Alberta, we all know a person who is caring for a family member, friend or neighbour. I encourage everyone to take a moment to thank a caregiver. These generous Albertans deserve our gratitude today and always.

“To all of the caregivers in our province – thank you.”
