“Alberta has always been an innovative and entrepreneurial province. The remarkable talent, range of products and technology available in our province attests to that.

“From world-class vaccine researchers to technology companies that are exploring applications in artificial intelligence and machine learning, our innovators are not only developing products and solutions to benefit people here in Alberta and across the globe, but are also creating businesses that contribute to our vibrant communities and support good-paying jobs Albertans count on.

“That’s why this week, we are celebrating the Alberta innovators who play an important role in contributing to our provincial economy – and will play an even bigger role in the months and years ahead as we work together to build an economy for the future.

“In fact, we’re already starting to witness some of this growth.

“While our province continues to build on our existing strengths in the energy, agriculture and forestry sectors, at the same time we’re seeing a boost in diversification and growth in key sectors like tech and innovation.

“Alberta Enterprise Corporation’s recently released 2021 Alberta Technology Deal Flow Study identifies double the number of technology companies in the province. Alberta is now home to more than 3,000 technology companies and this number is poised to continue to grow.

“Record-breaking venture capital investments are also coming into the province that will help even more innovators get their ideas and businesses off the ground. These investments will help drive innovation, grow our tech sector and, most importantly, get Albertans back to work.

“Our province has so much to offer those who are looking for opportunities to apply their skills and commercialize new solutions globally.

“While we recognize that this is a challenging time for all Albertans, we are committed to continuing to create the conditions to ensure our businesses can innovate, thrive and commercialize new solutions and products that benefit all of us.”
