“As Ramadan ends, I want to wish all Muslims in Alberta and around the world a joyous Eid al-Fitr.

“For Muslims, this holy month is about spiritual discipline and obedience to the commands of God. These can be rigorous standards to live up to in ordinary times, and the circumstances imposed by COVID-19 are far from ordinary.

“So I congratulate you on your commitment to your faith in the midst of real challenges. I also commend Alberta’s Muslim community for the generosity you’ve shown to people from all communities throughout the pandemic, from supporting food banks to preparing care packages for seniors.

“You know that crises are more than just trials to be endured. They represent an opportunity to deepen your faith and practice. You have done exactly that in these difficult days by extending care and comfort to others. As we all look to the future with renewed optimism, I hope you have a safe and wonderful Eid al-Fitr. Eid Mubarak.”
