“Diabetes is a growing health concern here in Alberta and around the world. Worldwide, the number of people living with diabetes is expected to increase to 578 million by 2030. In our province, more than 350,000 Albertans are living with diabetes, and that number is also forecast to rise.

World Diabetes Day draws attention to the serious effects of diabetes and the complications caused by the disease. A blue circle has become the symbol for diabetes awareness, signifying how communities worldwide are uniting to address this critical health issue.

“Here in Alberta, Diabetes Canada works to support and advocate for Albertans living with diabetes and encourages others to become familiar with the warning signs and steps to prevent this serious medical condition. Thank you for your commitment to raising awareness and supporting diabetes research to find new and innovative ways to manage this disease and ultimately find a cure.

“I ask Albertans to join me in recognizing World Diabetes Day. Let’s support this global effort to increase awareness of diabetes and the enormity of this chronic health problem. And, let’s work together to reduce the number of people affected by this disease.”
