“International Day of Older Persons is a marvelous opportunity for Albertans to pause and express our gratitude for the generations who came before us.

“They are the trailblazers who led our families and communities. They are the pioneers who built our economy and province. They are the elders who inspire us to do our best.

“The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on older persons, particularly those in care who have been separated from family and friends. That’s why Alberta’s government has invested more than $170 million to help residents and staff in long-term care, designated supportive living facilities, and seniors lodges keep safe from COVID-19.

“During the pandemic, Albertans have stepped up to help older persons by delivering groceries, staying in touch and performing other acts of kindness. Make no mistake, acts of kindness matter. That’s why we recognize and celebrate the Minister’s Seniors Service Awards each October.

“Please join me this month in saluting the individuals and organizations who support seniors, lead the way for improved services, and contribute to strong Alberta communities.”
