Premier meets with federal minister to discuss Alberta’s priorities

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney meets with federal Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Dominic LeBlanc to discuss Alberta’s priorities.

The two discussed how a properly designed federal recovery program can work to create jobs now in Alberta and expand existing industries while growing new ones. Premier Kenney also pressed the serious concerns Albertans have with arbitrary, punitive and unconstitutional regulation of the province’s natural resources, including through Bills C-48 and C-69; with ensuring that both the TMX and KXL pipelines are completed on time; with removing the out-of-date cap on the Fiscal Stabilization Program, which has cost Alberta billions of dollars even as we continue to send equalization payments to the rest of Canada during the worst economic downturn since the Depression; with support for Alberta employers, including small businesses, the tourism industry and airlines; and with the proposed new Clean Fuel Standards, which would be another effective carbon tax in the middle of an economic crisis.
