“This weekend, Muslims in Alberta join members of their faith community around the world in celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad on 12 Rabi Al-Awal, AD 570.

“Alberta was built by people from many countries and of many faiths seeking opportunity, freedom and tolerance. We are a welcoming and generous society.

“In this spirit, Albertans of many faith traditions contributed to help Edmonton’s Muslim community construct the Al Rashid Mosque in 1938 – Canada’s first such place of worship and only the third in North America.

“On this celebratory weekend, I wish Alberta’s 100,000-strong Muslim community joy, peace and the continued best wishes of fellow Albertans of all faiths.”
