“Tonight at sundown, Alberta’s Jewish community will begin the celebration of Passover, re-enacting the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian captivity more than 3,000 years ago.
“Human beings have faced many types of captivity throughout history. The Exodus account is one of the most inspiring stories in the long tale of humanity. It has brought hope to millions over the centuries, and continues to light the way of freedom, in dreams and in actions, all over the world.
“Passover is also a gathering of family and friends, a celebration of traditions and timeless values, and the occasion to pass on those teachings to each new generation. To all Albertans of Jewish heritage, may you enjoy a peaceful and happy Passover. Chag Sameach.”
