“We should all take great pride in knowing that Alberta is an inclusive and welcoming place that celebrates ethnic and cultural diversity. The United Nations International Decade for the People of African Descent, taking place from 2015-2024, helps us recognize this important community in our province.

“During Black History Month, as we honour the incredible contributions and achievements of this vibrant and multicultural community, we must also recognize the challenges people of African descent still face in Alberta and around the world. The International Decade offers us the opportunity to recommit to supporting people of African descent so they can enjoy their rights – be they social, cultural, civil or political – and, in turn, more fully and equally participate in our society.”
