Helen Andrews and Corine Verbeek are the 2016 inductees into Alberta’s 4-H Hall of Fame.
“Our 4-H program would not be possible without the selfless dedication of a group of very passionate volunteers, and this year’s inductees are a testament to that. They exemplify how generations of Albertans continue to value and enhance the 4-H program in our province and take the time to mentor Alberta youth. It is an honour to welcome them into Alberta’s 4?H Hall of Fame.”
The 4-H Hall of Fame recognizes exceptional 4-H leaders for their exemplary service, mentorship and volunteerism in their communities. Candidates are nominated by their 4-H peers and are evaluated based on their demonstrated leadership qualities, community references and contributions to 4-H, agriculture and their local communities.
Set to celebrate its centennial in 2017, 4-H Alberta is the largest youth organization in the province, with more than 250,000 alumni. The program teaches leadership, communication and agricultural skills through fun, hands-on experiences.
November is National 4-H Month.
Biographies
Helen Andrews of Round Hill has been a 4-H leader and volunteer for 40 years in many roles, including district treasurer, secretary and regional secretary, and she was a founding member of the Focus on 4-H regional project showcase. Helen is also involved in numerous community organizations, including the Round Hill Agricultural Society, and she was a Pride of Strathcona Award recipient.
Corine Verbeek of Sturgeon County has been a 4-H leader and volunteer for more than 30 years, including as a district key leader and president, northwest regional president and provincial equine leaders forum committee member. Corine is described as someone with extreme passion and enthusiasm who is always willing to do whatever is needed to make a 4-H event successful or help 4-H members learn.
