“For over 40 years, our province has celebrated its ethnic diversity and vibrant culture on the first Monday of August during Alberta Heritage Day.

“Alberta’s heritage begins with its Indigenous peoples and spans generations to the many immigrants who have come to call this province home. We are fortunate to have such a rich cultural landscape.

“As someone who immigrated to Alberta in my youth and has had so many wonderful opportunities and experiences here, Heritage Day is very special to me. It provides a chance to recognize my own roots within the context of our province’s vast diversity and history.

“Whether the weekend for you consists of taking an Alberta road trip, participating in one of the many heritage events across the province or simply spending quality time with family and friends, I hope you find a few moments to reflect on your story.

“While some will have to work on Heritage Day, I hope everyone has the chance to come together with others and celebrate your culture over the weekend.

“I wish all Albertans and visitors to the province a memorable and enjoyable Heritage Day weekend.”
