This release was issued under a previous government.

A targeted stakeholder consultation is underway to gather evidence-based information to inform potential technical changes to regulations governing the private insurance system.

The Automobile Accident Insurance Benefits Regulations, Automobile Insurance Premiums Regulation, Minor Injury Regulation and Diagnostic and Treatment Protocols Regulation will be reviewed as part of the consultation.

The government is committed to ensuring Alberta’s private automobile insurance system remains fair, affordable and accessible.  Any regulatory changes will be evidence-based and made in the best interest of Albertans.

Discussion papers have been sent out to affected stakeholders. The government will be collecting feedback until August 31, 2016 and will follow-up with meetings. Potential changes to any of the regulations could be brought forward in Summer 2017.
