“Congratulations to the cast and crew of The Revenant on their Oscar wins. I am so proud to be able to say that another Oscar-winning production was filmed right here in Alberta.

“I especially want to congratulate the more than 700 Albertans who worked as cast or crew on this production, including makeup artists from Canmore, actors from Siksika Nation and production crew from Calgary. I know their work was a significant contribution to winning these awards.

“I am extremely proud of all the accolades that this Alberta-based film has received so far. The Revenant is just the latest in a growing list of quality productions that are choosing Alberta, not only for our scenery, but for our amazing crews and industry supports.

“Most of all, I am proud of Alberta’s film and television industry, which has generated more than $400 million in economic activity in Alberta over the last five years and produced amazing films like Interstellar and Brokeback Mountain, and television shows like Fargo, Hell on Wheels and Heartland.

“Now that the Oscars have been awarded, I am looking forward to celebrating even more of Alberta’s artists and productions at the Canadian Screen Awards on March 13.”
