“Tourism is critical to our province’s success as we work to create jobs in the short term and diversify the economy over the long term.

“I enjoyed the opportunity to discuss tourism issues with my federal, provincial and territorial colleagues. It takes collaboration among many partners to grow this multi-sector industry and I am encouraged by what was shared.

“I applaud the federal government’s commitment to support continued growth of Indigenous tourism in Canada. Alberta is working closely with Indigenous communities to further develop its own tourism industry.

“Our government is also pleased to join our counterparts across the country along with industry to work on a new comprehensive three-year marketing campaign in the U.S. to be launched this spring. We will also work with the federal government and our partners in the industry on Alberta’s priorities for robust and affordable air travel and a strong, stable workforce in the tourism industry.

“Tourism is a bright light in our economy, with the most recent numbers from the Alberta Market Monitor showing an increase in visitation, up more than 15 per cent in our national parks and more than six per cent at our historic sites and museums. While we have seen some decline in business travel, I am pleased to report that our resorts are doing well and the overall industry remains strong even in tough economic times.”
