There’s much to see and do for the entire family at this year’s celebration. Events range from hands-on workshops, live musical performances, historical exhibits, drumming circles and art displays to an all-night festival, silk screening T-shirt activities, outdoor movie screenings, and delicious food.
As part of the celebrations, the following four organizations will host and present three days of major programming for Albertans to enjoy:
artsPlace (Canmore)
- With over a dozen workshops, a marketplace, a community stage, a furniture building competition, a community campfire, and Canmore’s first ever Creative Combat, there’s something for everyone at Canmore’s Festival of Art and Creativity.
Nuit Blanche (Edmonton)
- Take part in Edmonton’s first Nuit Blanche event — a free, all-night contemporary art festival throughout downtown Edmonton.
The Centre for Creative Arts (Grande Prairie)
- Learn how to hoop dance, catch a few outdoor movies produced right in the Peace region, enjoy some stargazing or try your hand at photography with a photo walk!
Lacombe Regional Tourism
- Enjoy a wide array of activities including woodworking, photography, writing, local history insights and agricultural heritage information, blacksmithing, horseshoeing, and farm tours.

Forty-eight other groups throughout the province were selected as celebration sites to host one and two day events of family friendly programming. Grants totaling $200,000 were awarded to the various sites in support of Alberta Culture Days.
“The Centre for Creative Arts, along with our partners, are excited and honoured to have been chosen as a feature celebration site. This designation provides an opportunity for our artists to shine. Our Culture Days celebrations will be a collaborative effort by many of our local cultural groups and we believe our programming will reflect the best that Grande Prairie has to offer in arts and culture.”
Host your own event
While 52 sites were named celebration sites by the government this year, anyone can host an Alberta Culture Days event. It can be something as simple as a block party or as elaborate as a concert. Event planning ideas and customizable promotional tools can be found at AlbertaCultureDays.ca.

Alberta Culture Days is part of National Culture Days, a pan-Canadian movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the artistic and cultural life of their communities.
